Babies do not come with instruction manuals! There is also no set way to deliver a baby. With this in mind, the best way to prepare for whatever comes your way during childbirth and beyond is to take childbirth and breastfeeding education classes. These classes bring invaluable information to parents-to-be and are updated regularly to keep up with the changing times. Being prepared takes away the fear of the unknown!
Mother's Embrace is pleased to offer both of these classes at our studio. These are not only open to our students, but also to the general public, no matter what hospital or setting you may be delivering in. The classes are nonjudgmental, so if you are planning to request an epidural or if your goal is to make it through without any medical intervention, these classes are for you. Info will be supplied on all ways to deliver, including c-section.
Elizabeth (Liz) Seaman has been counseling women regarding breastfeeding for 12 years.. first as a volunteer breastfeeding counselor through La Lecher League, then as an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant for another 10 years. She worked for 5 years in a private Breastfeeding Specialty practice and has led the Maternal Child Health Department at a local hospital for over 6 years. She has a wealth of knowledge regarding breastfeeding.
Liz has also taught Childbirth Education for the past 6 years. Expectant couples enjoy her humble yet charismatic approach to teaching. Birth is a transformative experience on so many levels and Liz tunes into and embraces each couple's unique history and personal perspective when teaching in a group setting. Mother's Embrace is very happy to have her on board!
Why not take the classes in the comfort of the studio, where there is free unlimited parking and smaller, more intimate groups.
CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Many women approach the birth of their first child with fear.. a lifetime of negative messages from the media and other women leave first time mothers wondering if they have what it takes!
**Childbirth classes can help build confidence in the body's innate ability to move through the birth process
**Classes provide the opportunity to discuss concerns with the instructor as well as with other couples
**Partners are not "coaches" but support persons who know the birthing woman more intuitively than anyone else!
**Couples will learn about how to manage discomfort during labor... positions, massage techniques, relaxation and focal points, as well as support using medications
**Couples will leave the class feeling empowered to have the birth experience that they hope for
BREASTFEEDING FOR BEGINNERS CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Babies are born with the innate ability to locate the breast without much assistance and to latch on and suckle shortly after birth. Sometimes, mom needs some help navigating through the early days/weeks of getting to know baby and vice verse. This class includes:
**Understanding the wisdom of the newborn takes all of the guesswork and rules out of the picture
**Detailed anatomy and physiology of the breastfeeding relationship between mom and infant will be discussed. Babies know exactly what to do if we give them the opportunity
**This class will debunk common myths and rules about how and when to breastfeed and leave mom feeling confident in her ability to understand infant cues and feeding behaviors
**Mom will be able to move through the nursing relationship with a deeper understanding of growth spurts, changes in milk supply and how to problem solve when challenges arise.
Classes will take place one Saturday per month at the studio. The Childbirth Education class will begin at 9 am and run through till 3 pm (bring a bagged lunch). Breastfeeding for Beginners follows from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Everything done in one day! Participants have the option to take both classes or just one.
