POSTNATAL MOM AND BABY YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

This online course consists of 3 fully illustrated modules, each with a 4-question assignment.

In some cultures, the postnatal period is just as important as the prenatal period.  In addition to the care provided by doctors and midwives, the family and community come together to support the new mother, making sure she has enough rest, food, comfort and practical help with household chores, so she will cope much better with sleep-deprivation, hormonal shifts and so on.

Regrettably, in the west, few new moms enjoy this kind of support. Self-nurture and support in the 4th trimester(the first 4 months after delivery) is often neglected, just at the time when moms need it the most.

Attending postnatal classes gives moms the time and space to acknowledge and deal with any anxieties about how the birth went, how they feel now and to be a part of a supportive group of women who are all in the same boat.  Being able to discuss the highs and lows of being a new parent can put things in perspective and reduce feelings of isolation and doubts about not being a good enough mom.  The postnatal period is hugely demanding on every level and it helps to know that all new moms struggle at times.  Having a melt-down is not the end of the world!

Postnatal Yoga focuses on postures specifically designed to help regain strength and tone in a safe, effective way.  The emphasis is on strengthening the pelvic floor, the abdomen, legs and back and opening and relaxing tensions in the shoulders, neck and arms.  Restorative poses are also recommended, particularly in the 3-4 months following the birth.

Mom and Baby Yoga -Baby yoga is gentle and allows time to integrate the experiences of the body after birth while regaining core strength and energy.

Moms and babies need to stay closely connected in the early phase of parenting - mom and baby yoga helps the bond to deepen in a way that is fun and healthy for both.  It helps postural development and generally gives the same benefits that exercise produces in older children and adults - improved digestion, elimination, circulation, sleep and mood.  Yoga strengthens babies' muscles and nervous system, encourages co-ordination and gives opportunities to express their energy.

How are the babies involved? The classes include special activities to deepen the bond between mom and baby, and to connect with other mothers.  During the sessions, babies can be involved in the yoga postures or be sitting or lying next to mom.  Singing, humming and chanting help to create a stimulating or soothing atmosphere, depending on what result is needed.
